My February Reading List
Bold: How to Go Big, Create Wealth, and Impact the World by Peter H. Diamandis and Steven Kotler → Click here to Purchase!
This is the ultimate entrepreneurial book on how to create something that will help millions and billions of people, and get paid for it. If you want to get rich, you need to fix a big enough problem.
Starting any business is hard. Starting a business with the intention of disrupting an industry is downright terrifying and yet this book is going to be your guide for it.
I really liked how the first 60 pages basically explained through details and real life examples what this even means. It discusses how the market get disrupted either by themselves or by a new company. If it’s the latter then they go out of business which is why it’s so important to think like this and always think different. Most of the current fortune 500 companies will be disrupted and by 2025 the top of the list will be companies we have never heard about before like 4U Fitness.
Then it gets into big goal setting- like Grant Cardone’s “10X Rules”. Explaining that it takes just as much work to aim for small growth that it does to aim for large goals! Like 10X! So go for it. Then it helps you break down the big goals to small ones so you can measure the progress and stay motivated without even wondering what’s next.
Just think about a writer. Writing a book is stressful and it’s a big goal and if you only focus on writing a book daily then you will lose motivation and drive. You need to set smaller goals that you can accomplish in a day which will add up to be the finished book. Thinking about writing a book is stressful but writing 3 paragraphs a day isn’t!
Your giant goals must be broken down to small daily ones. Think challenging yet manageable. Just enough stimulation to shortcut attention into the now and not enough to pull you back out again!
This book also gets really deep into crowdfunding! So much that it has tons of examples and a step-by-step guide with interactive calculations in it!
This alone can give you thousands of dollars worth of value!
The 4 Disciplines of Execution by Sean Covey, Chris McChesney and Jim Huling → Click here to Purchase!
This is the ultimate “The one Thing” book for business! If you have read “The one Thing” by Gary W. you are in for a treat with this book. If you are a manager, in operations (or any leadership role for that matter) this book will help you achieve your goals for the company and team.
It will help you to:
Focus on the wildly important
Act on lead measures
Keeping a compelling scoreboard
Creating a cadence of accountability
I like how it teaches you how to manage your resources in the company with real examples and calculations, ex: 80% of your resources and energy should be spent on day-to-day operations to keep the wheel going and 20% should be laser focused and spent on that 1 (absolute maximum 2) goal!
The book does a really good job explaining the why’s which is pretty rare these days. Not in this book, so get ready because you’re going to learn a lot.
If you already have a an awesome system like “Scaling Up” by Verne Harnish then you should be pretty good to go, however if you combine this two books you can get an even better end result!
If you use the OPSP- One Page Strategic Plan- from “Scaling Up” then this book’s Vision plan will compliment it well! The scaling up one is on a form with this one you could literally put it on your whiteboard in a vision format with the numbers and dates. My COO uses both of the above (but she doesn’t know it yet 😃) mentioned to make sure our company stays on track.
All I can say is that I wish I would have read this book sooner because I really like it combined with “Scaling Up”! I highly recommend this to you!
The Entrepreneur Roller Coaster by Darren Hardy → Click here to Purchase!
Did you know that 66% of new businesses fail and that the main reason for failure is not from location, capital, debt, or competition. Failure was not due to outside factors, they were all internal! They were not economic, they were mostly emotional! The unexpected and terrifying emotional roller coaster in entrepreneurial experiences is why most quit and then fail!
This book is the ultimate emotional guidance you need if you want to succeed!
It also help you with the 4 Main Things of Entrepreneurship that you can not ignore at all!
This book is for the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in square holes. This book is for the ones who see things differently, who’re not fond of rules. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or villainize them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things. They push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.
I recommend you stack up this book with the Key Persons of Influence book! Reading them back to back should give you a really good start on your new business/entrepreneur adventure.
The entrepreneur roller coaster gets deep into sales, recruiting, leadership, productivity and emotions!
All of the above is very important and you cant ignore them! You must master them. No excuses there!
