September Book Report for Entrepreneurs and Business Owners

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average employed American watches 31.5 hours of TV per week. If we add in Facebook & other social media sites, which counts for 10 more hours, then we can safely say that according to these statistics we play more than we work! This adds up to roughly 83 days a year of straight TV and Social Media! Therefore I strongly believe that it is absurd when people complain about not having a job or having enough money since the stats show that we actually choose to not work. We spend more time on TV and social media dreaming about our dream job/life instead of going after it. 

 

Why is it that the rich wake up every day and operate as if they are “poor people” and the “poor people” wake up every day and live as if they are a rich person? The only person you’re destined to become is the person you decide to be! GO FOR IT!

I couldn't wait to finally read this book! I was waiting for a special moment! You see I don’t pick books randomly and read them, I make sure I organize them in such a way that they fit in my life when most needed based on our company growth and goals. All based on how we go from a very small to a very large organization!

This way I can act on what I’ve learn in an instant and I already read the book and know what I want to get out of it! Always have a goal and then systemize that goal and act on it.

 

Andrew emigrated to the U.S. from Hungary like me, except he came in 1956. He is one of the founders of Intel and was the 3rd employee ever to be hired of this now giant company. In 1979 he become president of Intel and in 1987 he became CEO. He was chosen by Times Magazine as “Man of the Year” in 1997. He stayed with Intel till 2004 and he also taught at Stanford University Graduate School of Business for 24 years until he passed away in 2016! He is surely missed!

 

If you are not interested in learning from him after just reading that then you are a lost cause. This book will help you become a better person, employee, employer, manager and a better executive!

 

You will learn how to raise productivity, how to make decisions, how to hold staff meetings, how to get the most output of your people and business from a guy who has done it all and more! Not to mention it is well known that he was one of Steve Jobs business coach/mentors throughout the early stages of Apple.

This book was written by two authors who have been working together for many years! And they have spent 3 years researching, interviewing, reporting, writing and editing this book. It was written in first person! It was just easier for the writers and much cooler for the readers because Brent spent quarter of a century with Steve Jobs.

 

Brent shares Steve’s story and has previously interviewed truck drivers, soldiers from war zones, rebels, billionaires, presidents and more! However he was beyond anxious and nervous about his first interview with Steve Jobs since at that time Brent was 32, while Steve was 31 and already a global celebrity. That was not common in 1986! Jobs first words to him were “You’re new here aren't you!?” His last words 25 years later "I am sorry." 

 

This book was fascinating and dramatic and was truly like a Shakespearian tale: full of arrogance, intrigue, pride, with a villain, and hard headed fools, outrageous luck, good intentions and unimagined consequences. There were so many ups and downs in such a short period of time that it would have been impossible to write and project his success and what he accomplished while he was alive.

 

It’s a fuller picture and deeper understanding of the story of Steve Jobs in a way that would not have been possible while he was alive.

This book is the ultimate guide for two types of expert businesses:

  1. Selling information Products

  2. Leveraging information products to grow an existing company

 

Basically if you are new to this and don’t already have a company by the end of this book you might have one if you play your cards right and act on what you read! If you already have a company you can use this book as a tool to quickly grow your company and get customers, for free.

 

Side note- I loved the hand drawn stick figures and illustrations throughout the book.

 

It walks you through the whole process of becoming the expert of the industry. On top of that since most of the experts are broke and nobody listens to them, this book teaches you how to create a mass movement!

 

It starts out with analyzing real people who created mass movements including but not limited to: Adolf Hitler, Jesus Christ, and more.

 

The conclusion is that no matter who he studied, the result was always the same. He found 3 main things in regards to build a mass movement:

  1. They each had a charismatic leader or an attractive character

  2. Each of them focused on a future-based cause that was bigger than themselves.

  3. They each offered their audience a new opportunity.

 

Russel wants you to first create your niche market. Just like Blue Ocean Strategy which he references back to. By the way if you have not read Blue Ocean Strategy yet, then you are not in business, you are way behind of people who have read it.

 

Key Factors to becoming an expert:

 

Become an attractive character because your fans want to be like you. They see you as an expert, you have already become successful and the gap between where they see themselves and where they see you is what moves them to action and helps them make the necessary changes. This is why it’s so important to live the life that your audience wishes that they could have!

 

Maintain absolute certainty. The more you share your message with others the more certain you will become! So share it: in person, Facebook, Instagram, snapchat, podcasts, blog... just share it. The platform is less important than your consistency.

 

Don't be boring. You want to be prolific, which is being somewhere in between crazy and mainstream! You have to have abundant inventiveness!

 

 

This is one of those books I could go on about all day! It is full of information and step-by-step guides! I’d say it’s a must-read to anyone who wants to become an expert of an industry. Pick up your copy today, you won’t regret it. It is really up to date!

 

If you have read Key Persons of Influence it is similar to that. I recommend you read KPI and this book back-to-back and from the information of these 2 books, you can create a stable company! Everything is covered that you need! They don't teach this in schools!

You will also learn to not to listen to people who have not accomplished what you are after! For example, if you want to become a millionaire do not take advice from people who are not millionaires! And trust me there will be tons of them coming at you, especially friends and family. They will start saying things like “You got tO have money to make money. You work so much. You should work less you are working too much.” Before even taking their advice make sure to ask the questions to yourself: what qualifies him/her? Has he/she made it? No? Then tell them don’t try to sell me on what you telling yourself I am not buying it.

 

It’s like getting fitness advice from overweight, out of shape people, even skinny people. They would say things like “It runs in the family, I don’t have great genetics, I work out so much and can’t seem to lose any weight.” This is nonsense. You can be born into a poor family or an overweight family but if you die poor or overweight that is your fault and your fault only! You can change that! Stop coming up with excuses! If you are serious about losing weight or getting rich then let me ask you, how many books did you read on those topics? 1-2? 10-20? 100-200? None? You are not serious about it then and you just complain and come up with excuses.

 

Start with this book. Read it, study it! It has action plans inside! Take advantage of it, you know the worst thing you can do after reading this book is to let it to lead to knowledge instead of action! Because if you let your learning lead to knowledge you become a fool! If you let your learning lead to actions you become successful and unstoppable!
